Try Your Hand at Testing a Fractionation Hypothesis

Thingmuli, a Volcano in Eastern Iceland

Thingmuli Volcano, a complex, erupted lava flows and intruded shallow dikes ranging from olivine-tholeiites through tholeiites, basaltic-andesites, icelandites, to rhyolites (Carmichael, 1964). The hypothesis to be tested: Can these diverse rock types be related by crystal fractionation?
